08 / Pricing

What actually drives your price.

No black-box quotes. These six factors make up nearly all of what you pay, and our DFM review shows you which ones to change.

Machine time

The biggest factor for CNC. Deep pockets, small tools and hard materials all slow the cut. Generous radii and standard hole sizes speed it up.

Setups & fixtures

Each time a part is re-clamped costs setup time. Parts machinable from one or two sides are significantly cheaper.

Material

Both raw cost and machinability. 6061 aluminum cuts about 4× faster than 316 stainless and 10× faster than titanium.

Tolerances

Moving from ±0.1 to ±0.025 mm can double the cost of a feature through slower passes and extra inspection.

Quantity

Setup and programming are spread across the run. Going from 10 to 100 units often cuts unit price by 50–70%.

Finishing & inspection

Coatings, masking and documentation like FAI or PPAP add time. We quote each one as a separate line so you can choose.
